New Masters in Theology (History of Christianity) on offer in Maynooth

In September 2014 an innovative and exciting new Masters in Theology (History of Christianity) will be offered by the Pontifical University, St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, in collaboration with the Department of History and the Department of Early Irish, NUI Maynooth and the John Paul II and Russell Libraries. It will be offered on a One-Year (Full-Time) and Two-Year (Part-Time) basis on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Core first semester modules offer a comprehensive critical overview of the evolution of Christian thought and practice, necessary for understanding the history of the Christian Church, and then apply this in specific modules on the context of Britain and Ireland in the second semester. The collections of the John Paul II and Russell libraries form an integrated part of each module. These rich repositories are ideal for conducting original research, housing manuscripts dating from as early as the eleventh century, and a very fine collection of rare early printed books. Through the year, students will have the opportunity to attend guest lectures from international scholars, such as Professor Peter Brown of Princeton, who will deliver the Corish Lecture on 7 October 2014 and an International Conference on Martin Luther and Catholic Theology, 15-17 May 2015.

For this option, while having an undergraduate degree in Theology is an advantage, applicants with a strong background in History or a cognate discipline are also encouraged to apply.
